Certified Clinical Medical Assistant
Certified Clinical Medical Assistants are valuable members of the health care team in clinics and hospitals. Their responsibilities may include recording patient history, measuring vital signs (such as blood pressure), assisting physicians during examinations, administering injections or medications, and scheduling patient appointments. CCMAs contribute to patient care and overall efficiency in medical settings.
What will I learn?
Students will learn the basic functions of a medical assistant including preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and the cardiac life cycle.
The following topics will also be covered to prepare students to take the National Certified Clinical Medical Assistant exam:
- Medical Terminology
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Infection Control
- Communication and customer service
- EKG and cardiovascular testing
- Body systems, and much more.
Program Information
Training includes the following:
- 138 hours of classroom lecture and hands-on labs
- 16 hours of a phlebotomy clinical rotation at a local lab
- 80 hours of a clinical externship at a local healthcare provider
To be eligible for the clinical rotation and externship, students must submit to a thorough background check and drug screening and meet vaccination requirements. Clinical hours will be scheduled one-on-one for the student.
Upon successful completion of the classroom portion and clinical rotation/externship, students will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant national examination. The NHA CCMA exam is a Wyoming/Regional Industry Recognized Credential.
